| OLD SPECIMEN
LAKE Catchability Rating: 'Very
Easy'
This lake was built in
1982 and completely reshaped in 1990
to create more bank space. Almost
two acres in size, it is the lake
where most anglers go to bag
up on small carp averaging
between 1lb and 2lbs. The carp
record currently stands at 21lb
13oz, whilst bags in excess of 70lbs
a day are common.
Tench were introduced in
1992 and are now growing on,
although growth rates were initially
slow due to the high stocking
density of carp. The large
head of small carp with the
roach and rudd makes
for extremely good winter catches.

NEW SPECIMEN LAKE
Catchability Rating: 'Very
Difficult'
Built in 1989, the New
Specimen Lake has been stocked
almost exclusively with carp.
The lake is about two acres
in size with a large island to
ensure most pegs have unrestricted
access to a far bank. Barbel
were introduced into the water in
1992 and have grown far quicker than
anticipated. The fish were
put in at 5 inches and the record to
date stands at 14lb.The largest
carp in the lake
weighed 28lboz when caught in 2005
and there are a good number of
doubles and upper doubles. During a
recent netting to clear unwanted
fish, such as small carp,
roach and rudd from
the lake several roach
weighing 2.5lbs were found and these
have been returned to the water. The
best specimens of rudd and
tench were also returned.
Although the water is very
popular, particularly with big
carp anglers, it has been given
a carp catchability rating of
'very difficult' by Wylands. |

KELL LAKE
Catchability Rating: 'Very
Difficult'
Built in 1981 at almost two
acres in size, Kell Lake
continues to provide anglers
with the most double figure carp
on the complex - although ironically
it is our only lake
where surface fishing with
biscuit is extremely difficult.
Regular carp anglers who
fish Kell in preference to the
other lakes estimate it holds
between 40 to 50 double figure
carp. The lake record is
a 30lb 4oz mirror carp.The
size of the fish has been
maintained by the removal of most of
the carp under 12lbs together
with the small roach, rudd,
bream and tench.
However the best specimens of each
were put back and these included
perch over 3.5lbs and bream
over 8lbs. |

MIDDLE LAKE
Catchability Rating: 'Moderate'
Middle Lake was built in the
late 1970s and is considered by many
anglers to be the best 'all
round' water on the complex. The
largest carp caught was a
common carp that weighed in at
26lb 6oz and the lake holds
bream and tench over
9lbs plus perch just under
3lb 8oz. However a perch of
4lb 30z was caught during a
netting session when the lake
was partially drained in 1992.
Middle Lake also holds small
amounts of roach and rudd
to 1lb and we even had a
pleasant surprise in March 1994 when
a gudgeon almost 6 inches
long was caught in the shallows
near the outfall from House Lake.
Unfortunately the angler was
unaware of the significance of his
catch! This lake is the only
one where fishing from the
far bank is not allowed, although
the trees can be a handicap to the
enthusiastic caster!
Middle Lake fishes well both in
summer and winter. |

HOUSE LAKE
Catchability Rating: 'Easy to
Moderate'
Originally a typical farm
pond but enlarged many years
ago, House Lake now exceeds
1.5 acres and holds carp,
skimmer bream, a small amount of
tench and some perch.
The best carp caught in the
2005 season was a 25lb 8oz common,
which now gives Wylands a
total of five lakes with
fish over the 20lb mark.
Arguably the most popular lake
on the complex, House Lake
holds tench over 8lbs and
bream over 5lb and is probably
at its busiest on balmy summer
evenings when the carp feed
almost exclusively on the top, with
dog biscuits being
particularly effective. It's
popularity could also have something
to do with the fact that is is also
next to the Snack Bar!
De-stocked of most of the small
silver fish in 2004, and
replaced with more carp,
House Lake provides excellent
sport during the winter when pole
fishing with light tackle
usually provides good results. 250
barbel were introduced in
2000. |

FIELD LAKE
Catchability Rating: 'Very Easy'
Originally the match lake
at Wylands, Field Lake
is now described by regulars as 'the
Dad's and Lad's lake'. Heavily
stocked with carp and
tench, it is about an acre in
size. The average size of the
carp is from 1lb to 3lbs with
the tench running up to 2lb
7oz.
On a good day using light tackle
a 'fish a cast' is the norm
whilst the bigger carp are
usually taken on the top. The
lake record is a common
that weighed in at 15lb 8oz.
Field Lake is described as
a really superb lake for
introducing young people to
angling whilst even mums and
dads can catch easily. 250 barbel
were stocked in 2000. |

ROSIE'S LAKE
Catchability Rating: 'Very Easy'
Built in March 1995,
Rosie's Lake is a 3 acre lake
with a difference. We are proud of
the diverse types of fishing
we have at Wylands so thought
long and hard of how to make the
stocking of this lake different to
give you, the angler, another
challenge. It holds a large head
of tench, roach,
perch, chub, crucian, rudd, bream,
barbel and many exotic
varieties with carp up to
12lb. One for the
traditionalists, it is the largest
lake on the complex and is perfect for both beginners and
experienced anglers who like
real old fashioned
fishing. No optonics
or night fishing. Only
pole, float or
feeder fishing allowed. |

THE SNAKE MATCH LAKE
The Snake Match
Lake has become synonymous with
National and
International match
fishing and is available as an
'open' venue and for club bookings.
The existing match record for
a five hour match currently
stands at an impressive 197lb.
The first phase of The
Snake was built in 1992 with the
remainder added in 1995. Over 2
miles long and with 205 pegs, it is
the largest match lake
in the country and has an equally
big reputation. It is available for
hire by clubs and other
organisations. No night
fishing. Please contact
01424 893394 for more
